Fire Prevention Week 100 Years (1922 – 2022) This year marks the 100th year of Fire Prevention Week. To celebrate this particular date, we are going to show you the importance of this date. The Great Chicago Fire Have you ever heard about The Great Chicago Fire in 1871? One of the saddest stories of our nation is the fire disaster in Chicago City, Illinois. Approximately 300 people died from the fire catastrophe on that October 8-10. The city was engulfed in flames, and the fire destroyed over 3.3 square miles and 17,000 buildings, and more than 100,000 citizens were left homeless during those three days of fire. The lack of security caused concern for the American people. From that date on, fire precautions drastically increased.
